About Laura

Laura Kelland May is an equestrian educator, biomechanics specialist, and FEI Level 1* Steward (Jumping) with a professional background spanning coaching, judging, stewarding, and sport governance.

She is an EC NCCP Competition Coach Specialist (High Performance Trained). Her work focuses on structured rider development, long-term athletic progression, and technical clarity grounded in horse welfare and ethical standards.

With decades of involvement in training and competition environments, Laura has prepared riders for competition while contributing to the regulatory framework that supports fair play and ethical sport.

Coaching & Rider Development

Laura works with committed riders who want technical clarity and measurable progress. Her training emphasizes positional stability, balance, timing, and the effective use of aids.

Biomechanics and horse simulator training are used assess and improve equitation and body movement. The goal is to improve rider effectiveness, communication, and long-term development that benefits horse and rider.

Judging, Stewarding & Governance

Laura serves as:

  • EC Senior Steward (Hunter/Jumper)
  • EC Senior Judge (Hunter/Jumper)
  • ECWE Working Equitation Judge
  • EC Level 1 Eventing Judge

Philosophy

Rider development requires structure, progression, and clearly defined goals. Too often, instruction occurs week to week without a systematic framework guiding long-term growth.

Laura’s work is built around creating the framework for riders, horses, and the programs that support them. Her experience across coaching and governance has reinforced a consistent conclusion, meaningful progress is intentional, not incidental.

Professional Development

Laura maintains ongoing engagement in national and international coaching and officiating development, including FEI steward education, high-performance NCCP training, and continuing education in athlete development, mental skills, sport ethics, and equine conditioning.
