Connecting Equestrians from Around the World

Unlock Your Equestrian Potential

Did you ride when you were younger?

Are you searching for the freedom you had when you lost yourself in the stable?

You are not alone!

Many people, women especially, who grew up riding horses had to take a break from the stable due to career, family or other commitments.

Returning to the saddle can be daunting. However, it’s never too late to unlock your equestrian potential and get back into the sport you love.

The Reason Why

Before finding that perfect stable and slipping your foot into the stirrup it is important to ask yourself, “why”. Why are you wanting to get back into the saddle?

Understanding the reason will help you choose the best equestrian establishment for your return to the saddle.

If you are looking for camaraderie, then search for a barn that has a program for you and your specific requirements. Riding in a crowded lesson barn may not be what you are looking for.

Getting Started – What to expect

When starting your program, ease back in gradually. Look for a stable which has an experienced instructor who can assess your skill and develop a systematic plan to help you improve. This may include exercises off the horse to help strengthen the muscles you need for riding.

Riding is a sport and should be treated as a sport. It can be physically demanding. Remember to stretch before and after your lessons and incorporate strength and flexibility training into your fitness routine. Yoga, Pilates, and strength training can all help improve your riding posture, balance, and core strength.

Don’t be surprised if your instructor gives you a series of lunge lessons before letting you go off on your own. These balance, strength and coordination exercises will help develop your foundation and awaken your riding muscles.

Your Riding Routine

If you can ride once per week, make it a priority.

If it is a lesson, schedule it, mark it in your calendar and attend.

If you have the opportunity to ride outside of lessons, develop a consistent riding routine. And better yet, enlist the company of a friend. Consistency is key to improving your riding skills.

Setting Goals

Equestrian sports require focus, patience, and determination. Set realistic goals for yourself and celebrate your accomplishments along the way. Remember, the journey to unlocking your equestrian potential is just as important as the destination.

Don’t be afraid to return to riding. It may be a challenge but it’s not too late to regain the freedom you had when you were younger. Choosing the right stable, having a plan and taking your time you’ll be back in the saddle riding to your fullest potential.
